Floresta Series Fauna (Devonian to of Colombia)

Where: Boyaca, Colombia (5.9° N, 72.9° W: paleocoordinates 51.7° S, 48.1° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Emsian to Emsian (409.1 - 388.1 Ma)

• Caster refers to rocks as Floresta Series. Barrett (Refs. 9602, 9639) seems to suggest that fossiliferous samples are large Emsian to Eifelian in age. Caster suggests correspondences with a number of Lower and Middle Devonian faunas elsewhere.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; yellow shale

• Ref. 9674: "The specimens collected at Floresta are preserved in soft, yellowish and buff colored shales which contained at the time of deposition considerable amounts of calcium carbonate."

Collection methods: Olsson and Dickey collected material described by Caster and by McNair. Morales lists only those taxa that were not already reported by these previous authors.
