Platy limestone-shale facies, Upper Pridolian, Barrandian S-D boundary section (Silurian of Czech Republic)

Where: Czech Republic (49.9° N, 14.2° E: paleocoordinates 49.0° S, 55.3° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Monograptus transgrediens graptolite zone, Pozary Formation, Pridoli (418.7 - 416.0 Ma)

• PJW changed this to Pozary, as that is the Pridoli formation in this area.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; limestone and shale

• "Dark coloured, dominantly fine-grained platy limestones with abundant intercalations of shales...The fauna of the platy limestones is characterized by a large proportion of planktic, epiplanktic, and nektic organisms...although benthonic forms are not uncommon...It is postulated that the platy lst facies w/ shales was deposited in a relatively less aerated deeper and calmer environment that was supplied with coarse organodetrital material only during brief intervals..."

Size class: macrofossils
