Type specimens:

  • Captorhinus laticeps: CNHM (FMNH) UC 642, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Mitchell Creek, 29 (Waggoner Ranch Formation), which is in an Artinskian/Kungurian terrestrial limestone/shale in the Waggoner Ranch Formation of Texas.
  • Labidosaurus oklahomensis: OUSM 15022 (MUO 3-1-S7), a partial skull. Its type locality is McCann Quarry, which is in a Leonard fluvial-deltaic sandstone/sandstone in the Wellington Formation of Oklahoma.
