Type specimen: Collection unknown, a partial shell (isolated fragments of the shell (Cope 1884, pl. 63, figs. 13), now considered lost). Its type locality is Horsetail Creek, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial horizon in the White River Formation of Colorado.
