Type specimen: Musée des Amis de la Mine in Saint-Pierre La Palud, Rhône department, France (MAMSPLP) unnumbered specimen, a skeleton (an almost complete skeleton preserved with its ventral surface exposed, cemented to a 10-m concrete slab). Its type locality is Belmont d’Azergues (Lafarge quarry), Middle Toarcian (bifrons/variabilis), which is in a Toarcian marine marl/limestone in France.
