Type specimen: KNM-ER 1683, a skull (Skull and lower jaw). Its type locality is East Turkana - Area 105 - KBS, which is in a Pleistocene fluvial siliciclastic/siltstone in the Koobi Fora Formation of Kenya.

Ecology: carnivore
