•Originally identified as Riochican SALMA, Woodburne et al. (2014) listed Simpsonotus as from the Itaboraian SALMA of early Eocene age, but also noted that "The Mealla and Maíz Gordo

•formations are likely of pre-Itaboraian early and middle Paleocene age"

•Marquillas et al. (2011: Cenozoic Geology of the Central Andes of Argentina, 227-246) show the Mealla Formation as Middle to Late Paleocene.
