When: Black Shale and Coal Group, Sakmarian to Sakmarian (295.0 - 279.5 Ma)

• K2 local stage. "The composition of the flora indicates a lower Ecca (Permian) age and the enclosing beds can be regarded as equivalent to the Black Shale and Coal group, which includes the main seam worked in the Wankie coal field and the only Karroo coal bed exploited in Rhodesia." (Bond, 1968)
