Type specimen: BMNH 49202, a partial skeleton (an almost complete skull with mandibles in occlusion, with eight associated cervical vertebrae). Its type locality is Lyme Regis: Pinhay Bay (Lower Lias, general), which is in a Hettangian/Pliensbachian marine horizon in the United Kingdom.
